VetanSetu shows no ads and nothing you enter is sold. We built it to make your money simple, and to be as dependable as the apps you use every day.
You sign in with your email. Your entries are saved safely in your own VetanSetu account, so everything is right there when you open the app on a new phone or after a reinstall.
Your data is yours. You can change it, or delete your account and everything in it, at any time from Settings.
Your email address and a password (kept only as a salted one-way hash, so nobody can read it).
Your profile: name, age, gender, marital status and whether you have children. This helps VetanSetu suggest sensible plans.
What you enter in the app: spends, money added, categories, planned amounts, goals, savings, cards, EMIs and settings.
If you use Friends, VetanSetu gives you a VetanSetu ID (10 digits). Friends find you only by this ID, never by email or phone number, and they see only the name in your profile.
Your friend list, the groups you are in, the expenses you share and the payments you mark as paid are saved on our servers so that the other people involved can see them. They are encrypted on our servers and while they travel. Group admins can add and remove people and make other members admins.
Chat messages (in a group or with a friend) are end-to-end encrypted. They are locked on your phone and can be opened only on the phones of the people in that chat, so VetanSetu cannot read them. Our servers keep only the locked text, the time, and who sent it. Your phone keeps your chat key. A copy of that key, locked with your account password, is kept on our server so you can read your chats on a new phone. If you forget your password and reset it, chats from before the reset cannot be opened on a new phone. When someone joins or leaves a group, a new chat key is made, so a new member cannot read earlier messages and a person who left cannot read new ones.
Your own personal spends are never shown to friends. Only the shared expenses you add to a group are visible to that group, and each person has to confirm their own share.
When you delete your account, your friendships end and your name is replaced by "Deleted user" in the groups of other people. Shared expenses and the (locked) messages that other people also need for their own records stay there under that name.
The paid plan is bought and paid for in Google Play. VetanSetu never sees or stores your card or UPI details.
We keep which plan you have, when it ends, and the purchase token Google Play gives us (stored as a one-way hash), so we can check with Google that the purchase is real and give you the paid features on every phone you sign in with. You can cancel any time in Google Play, Subscriptions.
Everything travels over an encrypted connection and is encrypted again when it is stored on our servers.
Only a few trusted people who run VetanSetu can open an account's data, and only to give you support, keep the service healthy or improve it. Every such look is written to a log.
App lock, if you switch it on, asks for your phone's own screen lock (PIN, pattern, password or fingerprint) when VetanSetu opens.
If you choose a payment screenshot, a receipt, a bank statement or copied messages to import, VetanSetu reads them on your phone. Only the entries you tick and confirm are saved to your account; the picture or file itself is not kept.
VetanSetu does not read your notifications or your SMS by itself, and it does not ask for Notification access.
Internet: to keep your account in sync. Notifications: for your reminders, and, if you use Friends, to tell you about a friend request, a split or a payment to confirm or a new message. A message is opened on your phone, with your own key, to show its words in the notification.
Microphone: only when you tap the mic to add a spend by voice. Photos / files: only when you choose a receipt or statement to import; they are read on your phone and only the entries you confirm are saved.
Camera: not asked by VetanSetu. To scan a friend's QR code, VetanSetu uses Google's code scanner, which shows its own camera screen; VetanSetu receives only the text of the code.
We do not sell your data and we do not show ads.
We use an email provider to send verification codes and password reset mails, a hosting provider to run our servers, and Google Play for the paid plan. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
We keep your account for as long as you use VetanSetu. When you delete your account in the app (Settings > Account), your profile and all your entries are erased from our servers.
You can edit or delete any entry, change your profile, sign out, change your password or delete your account whenever you like. For anything else, write to us and we will help.
VetanSetu is meant for people aged 13 and older.
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will tell you in the app before it applies.
